Orchard Park's October Runs Between the Train Depot and the Chestnut Ridge Casino

After the Patriots game on October 4, the next event at Highmark Stadium is the Ravens on Sunday, November 1. That leaves Orchard Park with four weeks of no game-day closures in the stadium's first season. In those weeks the town's own calendar takes over, and it centers on two places. One is the village core around the Historic Orchard Park Train Depot and Buffalo Street. The other is the Casino at Chestnut Ridge Park. Both busy Saturdays this month have something going on at each.

The Stadium Goes Dark for Four Weeks

The Bills' official 2026 schedule shows how the stretch breaks down.

Date Bills game Where
Sun., Oct. 4 Patriots, final 26–29 Highmark Stadium
Mon., Oct. 12, 8:15 p.m. at Rams SoFi Stadium
Sun., Oct. 18, 4:25 p.m. at Raiders Allegiant Stadium
Week 7 Bye None
Sun., Nov. 1, 1:00 p.m. Ravens Highmark Stadium

On a home game day, the Bills' parking policy closes Abbott Road from Bills Drive to the NFTA Transportation Hub six hours before kickoff. Lots open four hours before kickoff, and after the game Route 20A runs under one-way restrictions. For the September 27 Chargers game, Abbott closed at 7 a.m. for a 1 p.m. kickoff. None of that applies again until November 1.

The Orchard Park Chamber's Oktoberfest was on October 3, the night before the Patriots game. It ran 5 to 9 p.m. at the Train Depot, 395 S. Lincoln St., with free admission and free parking. After that weekend, the rest of October belongs to events that have nothing to do with football.

Two Hubs, One Calendar

Most of the village side of the month sits within a few blocks. The Orchard Park Public Library shares a lawn with the Train Depot. The Village's Halloween event uses Princeton Place, with shuttle stops including Green Lake/Yates Park and the Jolls House at 4287 S. Buffalo St. North Buffalo Street holds the bars and storefronts, including Lunar Rei at 4230 N. Buffalo St.

The Ridge side is the Casino at Chestnut Ridge Park, 6121 Chestnut Ridge Road, plus the Eternal Flame trailhead off Route 277. Each Saturday below puts something in both places, and the start times are staggered, so families and adults can split the day between them.

October 10 Starts in the Creek

The first Saturday after the last home game opens at Chestnut Ridge. Erie County's Hike at the Eternal Flame with Ranger Roy runs 10 to 11:30 a.m. from the Eternal Flame parking area off Route 277. The route is 1.12 miles with about 200 feet of elevation change. The county describes the surface as "mud/dirt/roots/water" and notes that part of the hike is in the creek. It covers hemlock forests and local wildlife, leashed dogs are welcome, and it isn't stroller or wheelchair accessible. Registration goes through the county's online form. If you plan to walk the trail on your own that morning, expect to share it with the ranger's group.

Back in the village, the library runs a Bedazzling session the same day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You bring a small item to decorate, and registration is required.

October 17 Splits by Age

This Saturday shows the two-hub pattern most clearly. Three events overlap in one afternoon, and they sort roughly by who they're for.

  1. 1 p.m., Chestnut Ridge Casino. Resurgence Brewing hosts Pints in the Park: Brews & Views from 1 to 7 p.m. Stephen Babcock plays 1 to 3, Grace Lougen plays 4 to 7, and the vendors are Laney Rose Jewelry and Fate Fell Collective.
  2. 2 p.m., the village. The Village's free Halloween in the Park runs 2 to 5 p.m. at Princeton Place. Trick-or-treating is 2 to 4, and kids can decorate pumpkins at the Train Depot.
  3. 2 p.m., the library lawn. The library's Trunk or Treat runs 2 to 4 p.m. on the lawn between the Depot and the library. No registration is needed, and the Depot is also a shuttle stop for the Village event.

Trick-or-treating wraps up at 4, and Grace Lougen starts her set at the Ridge at the same hour. Pints in the Park keeps going until 7.

Pints in the Park isn't new to Chestnut Ridge, but the season is. The 2025 edition at the park was on June 6. This year Erie County lists it as a fall event. Buffalo Rising describes the series as free to attend. It's built around a mobile beer trailer serving beer, cider and seltzer, with live music, food, lawn games and family activities, and some proceeds go to local parks. None of the listings say food or drinks are included with admission, so plan on buying them there.

The next day the Bills play in Las Vegas at 4:25 p.m., so that weekend has no stadium traffic at all.

October 24 Moves Into the Evening

A week later the format repeats, but later in the day and for an older crowd. Both events lean toward costumes.

  • Orchard Park Halloween Bar Crawl, 5 to 10 p.m. It's free and 21+ with no set route, so you can start anywhere. The stops are Lunar Rei, Byrd House, Fattey Beer Co., Mario's, First Line Brewing, OP Social, Mangia and Wayland Brewing. Lunar Rei adds a plinko board and a prize wheel.
  • Howl at the Ridge, 6 to 9 p.m., Chestnut Ridge Park Casino. This is the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy's Party for the Park, with the Black Rock Beatles. Wine, craft beer and hors d'oeuvres are all included. Advance tickets are $60 for adults and $25 for kids 5 and older, and kids get a separate area with games, prizes, face painting and pizza. There are costume prizes for kids and adults, and all proceeds go to preserving and restoring Chestnut Ridge Park.

The two events take different approaches. The crawl is free and drinks are paid stop by stop. The Conservancy party is one advance ticket with food and drinks included, and the money goes back into the park that hosts it.

Earlier that day the library runs Saturday Morning Play from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 2 to 7, with no registration, and a Pokémon Club for grades K through 8 at 2 p.m. The next day, October 25, is the Bills' bye week.

The Weeknights Belong to the Library and Windward Drive

Between the Saturdays, the calendar gets smaller and moves indoors. The library has these on the schedule:

  • Oct. 12, 2 p.m.: It's a Winnie the Pooh Party, for families with children 8 and under. That's more than six hours before the Bills kick off against the Rams.
  • Oct. 14, 6 to 7 p.m.: Preparing for Cold & Flu Season, presented by the Erie County Department of Health.
  • Oct. 19, 5:30 to 7 p.m.: Genealogy for Newbies.
  • Oct. 22, 6 to 7:30 p.m.: An adult pumpkin-decorating workshop. Bring your own pumpkin.
  • Oct. 27, 6 to 7 p.m.: A Crow Party for adults 17 and up. Bring at least three small trinkets to trade.

Registration is required for most of these.

New York Beer Project at 245 Windward Drive has the regular weekly lineup. Its October calendar lists Sunday brunch and Boozy Bingo, half-price crowlers and Kids Eat Free on Mondays, Mug Club on Tuesdays, First Taste at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and DJ Trivia at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

For dessert in the village, World of Desserts opened its first Orchard Park café this spring at 4178 N. Buffalo St., in the former Village Smokehouse. It serves international desserts, espresso drinks, matcha and chai, and savory croissant and bagel sandwiches.

October 30 Is the Last Event Indoors

The last big event of the gap is a concert. The Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra opens its season with "American Stories" on Friday, October 30, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 South Buffalo St. Pianist Jeffrey Biegel is the featured soloist. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors, and free for children and students. The program includes music by Florence Price, Jennifer Higdon, Margaret Bonds, Peter Boyer and George Gershwin.

November 1 Brings Abbott Road Back

Halloween is on a Saturday this year, and Ravens Sunday is the next morning at 1 p.m. The Bills have made it a Native American Heritage theme game. Under the posted parking policy, Abbott Road closes six hours before kickoff and the lots open four hours before. If you're driving anywhere near Abbott Road or Southwestern Boulevard that morning, it will look like September again.

If you're riding NFTA's Game Day Express, the Highmark stop is the Transit Center near Abbott and Southwestern. NFTA posts each game's schedule during game week and suggests arriving 10 to 15 minutes early because seats are limited. After the Ravens game, home dates come quicker. The Dolphins play at Highmark on Sunday, November 22, and the Chiefs on Thursday, November 26.
